In the Studio This Week: The Search for our Design Intern of the Year!

In the studio this week we’ve been pushing the promotion of our Design Intern Competition 2019.

Last year, we launched the competition and it was such a success, we decided to make it an annual event. The premise; we select 4-6 graphic design students or graduates, looking for experience in a busy design studio. We welcome them in for a week-long period over the summer break and set them all the same brief with a live client. The outcome is a varied mix of different styles and approaches – and we love it!

We send the designs to our design intern partnerChewton Glen, a luxury hotel in the New Forest and ask them for their thoughts. Collectively, we choose a winning design. The chosen intern wins the title of ‘Glow’s Intern of the Year’ and this year, afternoon tea for two at Chewton Glen!

The competition allows for the interns to:

  • Gain industry experience
  • Work with other experienced designers
  • Experience life in a busy design agency
  • Boost their portfolio
  • Improve their CV

At Glow we’re a big advocate for nurturing, young talent. We’re firm believers of providing quality work experience for students to enable them to start their career in the creative industry. Not only that, but we feel it’s important to keep up to date with new ideas and approaches.

We love having interns in to mix up the office dynamics, and we know they find it beneficial too! Here is a quote from our latest design intern, Lauren:

I have had the most wonderful and memorable time whilst completing my work experience at The Glow Studio over the last week.

I feel that I have learned a large number of skills and techniques, all of which I will continue to use throughout the rest of my designing career. Lisa B has helped me feel so much more confident when it came to creating designs and artwork on InDesign and Photoshop.

All members of the team have taught me some really useful knowledge to help me when I enter the industry myself whether independently or through an agency. Working with the team at The Glow Studio this week has really opened my eyes to what it is really like working in the industry and the fact that having a strong and friendly team can really make working so much more enjoyable.

I am so grateful to all of them for welcoming me into the team as one of their own and making me feel so comfortable throughout the whole experience. I will forever be recommending their services to anyone and everyone as well as for people to come and complete their work experience/ internship with them.

I would absolutely love to come back again soon for another cuppa!
